About the School
Wycombe Abbey is one of the country's most successful boarding schools and the top girls' boarding school in terms of academic results. Wycombe Abbey has a long and distinguished history and it remains true to the guiding values of the founding Headmistress, Dame Frances Dove, who believed in the pursuit of excellence and the development of each pupil's character and individual talents.
Location and Facilities
Set in magnificent conservation-listed grounds spanning over more than 160 acres, Wycombe Abbey offers its pupils the spacious outdoors and the peace and quiet of country life, and yet shops, cinemas and other leisure facilities are a short walk away in the town of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
The School boasts excellent transport links – only 30 miles from the centre of London, 20 miles from Heathrow Airport and 56 miles from Gatwick Airport.
There are modern, state-of-the-art facilities such as a Sports Centre encompassing a 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, a sports hall and dance studio, a fitness studio, climbing walls and four squash courts and a Performing Arts Centre with a theatre and a recital hall.
Wycombe Abbey is consistently outstanding in its academic results. An education in the widest sense is provided and pursuit of academic excellence goes hand in hand with commitment to pastoral care. Each individual is encouraged to achieve her full potential: she receives first-class academic teaching and has the opportunity to discover her talents be they artistic, musical, sporting or otherwise. All GCSE/IGCSE and A Level/Pre-U subjects offered are academically rigorous and prepare girls well for university and beyond.
Pupils are provided with an enormous variety of co-curricular activities. These are enjoyable in themselves, and they also help girls to develop the plethora of skills they will require to be successful and happy on a global stage.
Wycombe Abbey is committed to full boarding. Girls who enter the School at 11+ have their own Junior Boarding House. From the age of 12–17 pupils live in one of nine mixed-age Senior Houses and in the Upper Sixth girls move into Clarence House, a study-bedroom complex. Every pupil is cherished and nurtured and everything in the School is done in their interests.
Pupils wishing to join the School at 11+ and 13+ should register two years prior to entry and entry is conditional upon achieving success in the Common Entrance examinations (11+/13+) or the Wycombe Abbey Scholarship examinations (13+ only). A limited number of places are available for entry at 16+ (Sixth Form), subject to performance in the Sixth Form Entrance examinations.
