Lansdowne College is one of London’s leading independent sixth form colleges offering GCSE and A-level tuition to both day and boarding students. Situated on a leafy residential street a minute’s walk from Hyde Park, the college provides a spacious, bright and welcoming environment for our students in the heart of the city.
Our mission is to fully develop each student’s academic ability by delivering personalised study programmes tailored to the individual’s needs. Students who join us relish and respond to being treated as young adults, thriving on the mixture of expert tuition and pastoral care they experience and enjoy. We create an environment built upon mutual respect between teachers and students, that maintains academic rigour within a college, rather than a school, atmosphere.
Independent Schools Inspectorate report 2014
“Lansdowne College is successful in meeting its aim to provide an intensive academic education that encourages students to realise their potential. (…) Pastoral care is excellent, students benefit greatly from the support, encouragement and guidance provided by their teachers and personal tutors, with whom they form respectful, trusting and warm relationships.”
We teach successful learning habits and encourage critical thinking to ensure that students maximise their exam results and consequently their undergraduate opportunities. Small class sizes, with an average of eight students, allow teachers to focus on individual needs and adapt to student performance. Our system of Exam Practice Papers (EPPs), whereby students sit a one-hour paper each week, is crucial in ensuring success in the all-important end-of-year exams.

“I benefited from the small class sizes, informal lessons and the personal teaching style at Lansdowne College. It all contributed to me winning a highly competitive internship for eight months with management consultancy firm Accenture.”
Our students’ ultimate aim is to progress on to leading degrees at top universities. We are proud of our track record of helping students achieve these ambitions. In 2016, our students won places at some of the UK’s best institutions including the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, the University of Warwick and the University of Bristol to name but a few. Our one-to-one UCAS advisory sessions, exceptional teaching and specialist training programmes put students in the best possible position for entry into their desired university.

Pastoral Care and Extra-curricular
The college offers an informal, friendly and supportive learning environment that helps our students gain a well-balanced education. Every student is assigned a personal tutor who closely monitors their progress and welfare. Alongside academic study, we run a variety of social events and societies. Our popular Activities Programme includes ski trips, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, excursions and a wide range of sports teams to join. It is this breadth of education we offer that produces the rounded, confident individuals that our students are renowned for being.
Our student residences, Princess Beatrice House and Pure Hammersmith, offer an unrivalled boarding experience in exclusive and convenient London locations. Our House Parents live on site providing 24-hour supervision seven days a week. All rooms are spacious, modern and light with en-suite bathrooms and a kitchenette.
The Next Step
Places at Lansdowne are offered on the basis of an interview with the Principal. This can be arranged by our admissions team who are always ready to answer any questions you might have about the college. If you are interested in joining or would like to look around, please do get in touch.
